Fraxel Treatment Found Effective in Preventing Skin Cancer

Actinic Keratosis (non-melanoma, premalignant skin lesions) affect more than 10 million Americans, according to the American Academy of Dermatology, and skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States. The Fraxel re:store laser system has been proven effective in clinical trials to treat actinic keratosis (AK), the most common precancerous skin condition. Now with its Dual laser wavelengths in one system, Fraxel treatment is even more effective preventing skin cancer.

"Skin cancer is one of the most preventable types of cancer, with sun protection and liberal use of a sunscreen of at least SPF 30," says Roy Geronemus, MD, director of the Laser & Skin Surgery Center of New York. "If one already has significant sun damage, as can be the case with active golfers, I recommend the new Fraxel re:store Dual laser treatment. In our recent study, we found an 86% clearance of AKs after a series of treatments with the 1927nm Fraxel re:store laser. This rate is comparable or better to other topical therapies; however Fraxel has the added benefit of improving skin quality, color and texture. I refer to it as the best of both worlds - better looking skin as well as removal of pre-cancers."
